The beginning of my Final Year Project (Week 1)

Week 1

General information about the Final Year Project

The Final Year Project of mine is named "Optimizing the performance of Heat Pump based Heating System through Control System Design", which is supervised by Dr. John Counsell and will be carried out for 22 weeks, which are divided into semester 1 and semester 2 two parts.

The objectives of this project is to complete a Heat Pump based heating system with advanced control system, followed by a optimization period. The final system should be able to control the room temperature of a domestic building, which could achieve the set-point temperature on time and track the set-point line perfectly. 

After the meeting with my supervisor, I have made a bias schedule for my project. Generally said, the project will include three basic steps. Step 1 is the heat pump modelling, using SimuLink and MATLAB to simulate the complex heating system that based on heat pump; Step 2 is the control system designing, including the application of IDEAS modeling and ID & RIDE control algorithm, the designed heating system combined with controller will be integrated into an existing domestic heating system aimed to replace boiler; Step 3 is the performance optimization of the whole system, in order to achieving the expected performance. 

However, its not easy to complete any part of the project, for which are all the first time to deal with. Meanwhile, the course named "Digital Control & Optimisation" is just start for semester 1 of final year, which is tightly connected with this project, especially for the optimisation part.

The major task for next few weeks is to complete the "Project Specification Report", which should based on series of background knowledge learning and discussion with FYP tutor.
